Indian paddling ace Sathiyan Gnanasekaran’s Tokyo Olympics campaign came to an abrupt end on Sunday after losing his men’s singles 2nd round clash against Lam Siu Hang of Hong Kong.
The match, which took place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gym -Table 1, lasted for an hour and three minutes and saw the Hang outplaying Sathiyan 4-3 to progress to the third round.
Hang, the world no 95 had taken the lead by winning Game 1, but Sathityan fought back strong to level the scores in Game 2 and then went onto win Game 3 and 4 as well to get a comfortable 3-1 lead and needed to win just one more Game to win the match.
Unfortunately, the world no 32 Indian failed to defend his lead as Hang made a remarkable comeback to the match. With an astounding change of momentum, he made it 3-3 by winning Game 5 and 6 and the match had made its way into the final and deciding Game 7, where Sathyian failed to keep up.
