The match scores were 15-21, 21-15, 14-21 in favour of Hsu Wen-chi. The Taiwanese shuttler took an early lead in the first game, racing to a 10-2 advantage. Despite Sindhu’s attempts to recover, she couldn’t close the gap, losing the first game 15-21.

In the second game, Sindhu showed marked improvement. The game was level at 11-11 at one stage, but a flurry of points saw Sindhu win the game 21-15. This victory took the match to the deciding third game.

However, the final game saw Hsu Wen-chi prevail. Despite the scores being locked at 12-12, Sindhu couldn’t close the match in her favour, losing the game 14-21.

This defeat comes as a setback for Sindhu, who had managed to reach the finals of the Malaysia Masters a couple of weeks back. After a pre-quarters finish in the Singapore Open, this loss in the first round of the Indonesia Open is a blow to her preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she would be looking to win her third medal.
