Three players in the Indian camp namely Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer have tested positive for COVID-19. The team were set to play the ODI series against the visiting West Indies side from February 6 onwards.

It can be said for certain that the trio who have contracted the virus, are set to miss the series in Ahmedabad. The BCCI are expected to name replacements for the players.

The Indian team were tested upon arrival in Ahmedabad. The results have revealed 3 positive test results so far, and up to 8 members in the camp are expected to have returned positive results.

The BCCI medical team are currently monitoring the situation. The entire Indian team is under isolation at the moment.

India were scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against West Indies. The entire tour was confined to two venues keeping the COVID-19 cases in mind. Ahmedabad was given the hosting rights for the ODI series while Kolkata was handed the T20Is.

The selection committee will have to rope in openers given Dhawan and Gaikwad’s situation. Currently, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma pose as the team’s openers, but they will require more backup openers. Shahrukh Khan and Sai Kishore were added as back-up players to the squad as well.
