Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, the star badminton duo from India who were a major part of the country’s momentous Thomas Cup victory, are now focused on making another stellar finish at the upcoming Commonwealth Games, followed by focusing on their long-term goal- the Paris Olympics in 2024.

The CWG 2022 are set to commence next month in Birmingham and clinching gold at the coveted event will mark a brilliant start to the next phase of the shuttling careers of the last edition’s runner-ups, the current world no 8 pair who also aim for a medal finish at the next Olympics which takes place at the French capital two years from now.

“The CWG is our next target. The CWG is followed by the World Championships. These are the two big events we are focussed on,” said Chirag during the launch of the Grand Prix Badminton League in Bengaluru on Sunday, “we can definitely aim for a medal at Paris. The Olympics is about two years away, and that is our long-term goal.”

“We want to enter the top five in the world rankings. This is very much achievable. If we consistently defeat the top pairs in the world, we can definitely do it,” added Chirag.

“It’s great to see people recognise us when we go to malls and others places. People have begun to follow badminton closely after the Thomas Cup. We also went to the Prime Minister’s house. That was a great day,” Satwiksairaj revealed how the Thomas Cup success has increased their reputation.
