What’s been going in LaLiga this past week? Here are 10 of the top new stories from the last seven days, featuring transfer updates, a new ball and a U-21 European Championship.

LaLiga’s youngsters are kinds of Europe

Spain won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship with a 2-1 win over Germany and what’s more they did it with a squad packed full of LaLiga talents. Of the 23 players in Luis de la Fuente’s squad, 18 of them played for LaLiga-based clubs in 2018/19, with players from Alaves, Athletic Club, Real Madrid, Real Betis, Espanyol, Villarreal, Real Sociedad, Levante and Valencia taking part in the final.

 There’s a new-look LaLiga ball

LaLiga and PUMA have released the official LaLiga Santander and LaLiga 1l2l3 competition football for the upcoming 2019-20 season. The stylish new ball was presented in a cool video starring LaLiga stars Jan Oblak, Antoine Griezmann, Samuel Umtiti, Marc Bartra, Santi Cazorla and Luis Suarez.

Denis Suárez returns home

Denis Suárez grew up just outside of Vigo and came through the RC Celta academy before embarking on footballing adventures at Manchester City, Barcelona, Sevilla, Villarreal and Arsenal. He’s now wrapped up a permanent transfer back home to Celta, who’ll pay an initial €12.9 million with €3.1 million in variables. An exciting moment for both club and city, who’ll have another local hometown hero to cheer for in 2019-20.

Barcelona and Valencia trade keepers

Jasper Cillessen and Neto have traded places, passing each other on the road along Spain’s eastern coast with Cillessen joining Valencia and Neto taking his place to join the blaugrana goalkeeping ranks at the Camp Nou. The transfer fees paid are almost identical: Valencia have picked up the Netherlands’ starting keeper for €35 million while the reigning LaLiga champions paid €26 million with €9 million in add-ons for the Brazilian.

Busy season across the Valencian Community

Valencia have picked up 24-year-old winger David Remeseiro Salgueiro, better known as Jason, from local rivals Levante, while defender Rúben Vezo is moving in the opposite direction after spending the second half of last season at the Ciutat de Valencia on loan. Alongside these deal, Russian international winger Denis Cheryshev has moved from Villarreal to Valencia on a permanent transfer after spending 2018/19 on loan at Mestalla.

Monchi makes his moves

Sevilla’s renowned Sporting Director Monchi is back for this summer’s transfer window and isn’t wasting any time. Over the past seven days, Sevilla have brought in midfielder Joan Jordán from Eibar and forward Luuk de Jong from PSV Eindhoven, with Pablo Sarabia going the other way to PSG.

Chimy Ávila is staying in LaLiga Santander

Chimy Avila, one of SD Huesca’s most impressive performers in 2018-19, is staying in LaLiga Santander despite their relegation after agreeing to a four-year deal with LaLiga 1l2l3 champions CA Osasuna. The side from Pamplona have paid San Lorenzo, from whom Avila was on loan at Huesca, around €2.7 million plus €600,000 in variables for the Argentine who notched ten strikes in his debut top-flight season in Spain.

Young Real Madrid duo reach LaLiga Santander

Two of the most impressive young talents on Real Madrid’s books will have an opportunity to shine in LaLiga Santander in 2019/20. Jorge de Frutos, a 22-year-old winger who played for Castilla (Los Blancos’ reserve side) last season, is going out on loan to Real Valladolid, while 22-year-old right-back Álvaro Tejero is moving to Eibar after impressing on loan at LaLiga 1l2l3 side Albacete last season.

A new left-back for Atleti

Atletico de Madrid have announced a preliminary agreement to bring in Renan Lodi from Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense. The 21-year-old left-back has impressed in Brazil, developing a reputation as one of the hottest young left-backs in world football, and will head to the Wanda Metropolitano to replace the out-of-contract Filipe Luis.

Barcelona’s young stars win the latest LaLiga Promises

FC Barcelona’s youngsters were crowned kings of the LaLiga Promises International tournament in New Jersey this weekend. Barça defeated rivals Real Madrid 6-1 in the final of the competition which pits together the very best U-12 teams in the world from countries as diverse as Spain, Italy, the United States, Mexico, Portugal and China.
