Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, the Indian chess prodigy, has been making waves in the international chess circuit. He competed with the best of the best at the recently concluded Norway Chess and beat the likes of Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana and the world champion Ding Liren.
Indian Chess Trio of Pargg, Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi are constantly making strides in global tournaments. Arjun broke into the top four of the rankings, while Gukesh claimed the prestigious FIDE Candidates title.
Praggnanandhaa’s thoughts on Gukesh and Erigaisi
Recently, Pragg shared his thoughts on his competition with fellow Indian chess players. Praggnanandhaa, Gukesh, and Erigaisi represent the new generation of Indian chess, often referred to as the “golden generation” by five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand. These young players have been consistently performing at high levels, challenging and defeating some of the world’s top players.
In a recent interview with Sportstar, Pragg revealed his thoughts on the competition between his fellow countrymen. When asked about Gukesh and Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa acknowledged their talent and the healthy competition they bring to the table. He mentioned that their games are always challenging and that they push each other to perform better.
Praggnanandhaa expressed admiration for Gukesh’s achievements and mentioned that Gukesh’s rise has been inspiring for him and other young players. He also acknowledged that Gukesh’s strong form adds to the competitive environment.
“I’ve always said we give each other the inspiration and motivation to do well. Before every round in Norway, I used to see Arjun winning another game in the French league, then you also get this extra motivation. We are friends, but you also have this healthy competition and you also want to do well. All the young players inspire me and I’m very happy to see that there are three players (Indian youngsters) in the top 10 and I’m looking forward to the Olympiad which will be fun,” said Praggnanandhaa with a smile.
In this exclusive interview, Indian GM @rpraggnachess talks about #NorwayChess2024, handling pressure at a young age, his healthy competition with Arjun Erigaisi and D. Gukesh, and more.
