Former Real Madrid president, Lorenzo Sanz, has revealed how Arsenal legend Thierry Henry could have become a Real Madrid player back in the day when he was in charge of the La Liga side. The Spaniard has unveiled the Gunners icon’s signed deal as proof of his claims.

Henry, who went on to become Arsenal’s greatest ever player under Arsene Wenger, first shone at AS Monaco, where shockingly his first managerial stint came to a rough end in mere three month’s time.

Lorenzo Sanz, speaking to Idolos revealed how he almost convinced the legendary Frenchman to leave Monaco and play for Real Madrid.

“I’ve kept the contract signed by Thierry Henry in the drawer,” Sanz said.

“He played in Monaco, we convinced him and he signed the contract, but when we had him on the plane to come to Madrid, the father arrived and said he could not leave, that he was afraid, that the president of Monaco…

He went on to add: “I told him not to worry, that I’ll fix it, but in the end, no, no, no, and the operation was screwed up. But with the contract still signed.”

Henry did leave though, but to join Serie A side Juventus where he lasted only a year before Wenger signed him. And much to Sanz’s chagrin, he left for Spain after staying for 8 years with the north London side – to join Real’s rivals Barcelona.
