Indian cricket superstars Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were involved in a controversial on-field altercation when Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Lucknow Super Giants in the 43rd game of the tournament on May 1 in the IPL 2023.
Following the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, who have built quite a reputation for their aggression, were engaged in a heated exchange of words. This controversial incident grabbed the attention from the fans.
It is worth noting that LSG’s mentor and the RCB opener were fined 100 percent of their match fees as it led to a breach of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. In addition to this, Naveen-ul-Haq, who was also involved in the incident, was fined 50 percent of his fees.
Gautam Gambhir opens up on the matter
A month has passed since the incident and Gambhir has stated that there is nothing personal between them, and all the heat stays on the ground.
“My relationship with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli is the same. If there is an argument between us, it stays only on the field, not off field. There’s nothing personal. They want to win as much as I do,” Gautam Gambhir told News 18.
In addition to this, Gambhir also stated that he made a point of not taking the fights and arguments that he gets involved in off the field. He also stated that a lot of people asked him for clarification. He opined that an argument between two people does not need any clarification.
“Look, I have had many fights on cricket fields. It’s not like I never fought. I have always ensured to let those fights and arguments stay at the cricket field only. The argument was between two people and it should stay within the cricket field and not outside it. A lot of people said many things. A lot of people demanded an interview for TRPs like they asked me to clarify. The thing that has happened between two people doesn’t need to be clarified,” Gambhir said.
