Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar showered praise on India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, following a thrilling victory over Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024. The match, a crucial Super 8 clash, saw India emerge victorious by 24 runs in St Lucia.

Shoaib Akhtar lauds Rohit Sharma’s blistering Knock

Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role, scoring a blistering 92 runs off 41 balls with 7 fours and 8 sixes. His aggressive intent set the tone for India’s innings, propelling them to a formidable total of 205 for 5.

Shoaib Akhtar highlighted the transformation in India’s mindset. After their defeat to Australia in the ODI World Cup final, India’s initial depression turned into an unwavering obsession. They were determined to take down Australia, and Rohit Sharma led the charge with brilliant intent, particularly against the formidable Mitchell Starc.

“The depression India was going through after their defeat to Australia in the ODI World Cup final has changed into obsession. India wanted to take down Australia. Rohit Sharma did what he needed to do. He played with brilliant intent, the way he took down Starc. I wish he scored 150 today,” Akhtar said in a video on his ‘X’.

After Rohit’s whirlwind knock, India’s bowlers stepped up to the challenge. Arshdeep Singh’s crucial wickets of David Warner, Tim David, and Matthew Wade, along with Kuldeep Yadav’s impressive figures, ensured that Australia fell short, managing only 181 for 7.

India’s victory sets up a semifinal clash against Jos Buttler’s England on June 27 in Guyana.
