Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the semifinals of Thailand Open after getting past their Korean opponents in the quarterfinals on Friday.
The unseeded Indian pair booked their place in the semifinals after getting past their Korean opponents Choi Solgyu and Seo Seung Jae 21-17, 17-21, 21-19 in a hard fought contest.
The win marked Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s first win against the Korean pair. This win now sees them play against another Korean pair of Ko Sung Hyun and Shin Baek Cheol in the semifinals that is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
While the men’s double team tasted success, it was short lived as the other Indians in contingent saw their run come to an end. Sai Praneeth saw his men’s singles journey draw to a close after losing to Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama 21-18, 21-12 in straight games.
Rankireddy looked to take his winning streak into the mixed doubles category but it didn’t work out as him as him and Ashwini Ponappa lost to Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Hagashino 21-13, 21-15 to bring their campaign to a close.
