Rising Indian tennis star Prajnesh Gunneswaran has qualified for the main round of the Miami Open after getting the better of Jay Clarke 6-4, 6-4 in the final round of the qualifiers. He will next take on 21-year-old Spain’s Jaume Munar in the first round. If Prajnesh overwhelms the youngster, he will square off against 2018 Wimbledon finalist Kevin Anderson.

By defeating his American counterpart, Prajnesh has qualified for his second consecutive main draw of an ATP 1000 tournament after reaching the third round of the Indian Wells tournament. There, the 29-year-old defeated World No. 18 Nikoloz Basilashvili in a grueling encounter that lasted two hours and 31 minutes.
Following his exploits in the Indian Wells, Prajnesh saw a surge in his rankings which took him to a career-best 84th spot. It consolidated his place as the highest-ranked Indian male tennis player.
Let’s hope he continues his stupendous form into the Miami Open as well. The Sportsindiashow team wishes him all the best for his sojourn in Miami.
