England’s ODI team has been forced into isolation after an outbreak of the virus in its squad and they are struggling with fresh COVID-19 cases.

It was reported that all the Indian players and support staff, who have already received the first dose of Covishield, will get their second dose in batches on July 7 and 9, as planned by the BCCI.

A senior BCCI source confirmed: “Most of the players are in and around London. All this was planned well in advance. All those who have had Covishield as their first jabs in India are now ready to get their second doses.”

The full vaccination of Indian players has been made mandatory after multiple cases of COVID-19 broke out in the English camp.

Three England players whose names have not been disclosed and four support staff members have tested positive for the virus. It was reported 48 hours after the conclusion of their ODI series against Sri Lanka.

This compelled the Three Lions to announce a fresh squad under the leadership of Ben Stokes ahead of their ODI series against Pakistan.

Virat Kohli led-Team India will regroup in London on July 14 and they could proceed to Durham for a two-week training cum first-class game against Select County XI.

A senior BCCI official said:

We are aware of the situation. Obviously, ECB and the local health authorities will provide us with any change in existing health safety protocols and that will be strictly followed.”

The Indian players have been given a 20-days break to rejuvenate, refresh, and also meet up with acquaintances following the summit clash against New Zealand.

The highly-anticipated series will begin in Nottingham from August 4.
