Team India leading the World Test Championship table with 14 points

The new cycle of the World Test Championship began with the commencement of a high octane series between India and England. So far, the Indian team is leading the points table with 14 points. 

The Indian team registered a huge 151-run win against England in the second test at Lord’s. Hence, the visitors received 12 points for the win according to the new point system of the WTC. The first Test between India and England ended in a draw as rain abandoned play on Day 5. Hence, both the teams got 4 points. However, 2 points were deducted from both of the team’s tally as their over-rate in the first test was slow. India and England will now face off at Headingley, Leeds for the third test of the series.

Only India, Pakistan, England and West Indies have played a test series in the current World Test Championship cycle. This WTC cycle will end in 2023.

Pakistan register their first win in the current World Test Championship league

The two-match test series between Pakistan and West Indies ended in a draw (1-1) after Pakistan comfortably beat the Windies by 109 runs in the second test. The first test match between the teams proved to be a thriller where West Indies beat Pakistan by 1 wicket.

However, Pakistan made a strong comeback in the second test and won the game comprehensively. With the help of another century from Fawad Alam, Pakistan posted a score of 302 for 9 declared. Alam has scored 4 centuries in his last 8 test matches. He has scored 1 century in each of the previous four series.

However, the star of the show was Shaheen Afridi who took his maiden 10-wicket haul in test cricket. The young left-arm quick took 6 wickets in the first innings and helped West Indies bowl out for a mere score of 150. He then followed with a four-wicket haul in the second innings to complete his 10 wickets. Shaheed was awarded the player of the match and player of the series for his outstanding display.

Pakistan and West Indies are in second and third place respectively with 12 points. England are currently in fourth position with 2 points.
