The four-match Test series between Team India and Australia has already reached its midpoint, but the visitors are reportedly unwilling to travel to Brisbane, the fourth and final venue of the series, over the possibility of a hard lockdown to be imposed.

Cricket has resumed amid the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic, albeit with several protocols and restrictions in place, which include a strict bio-bubble, travel restrictions and a strict aversion of social contact.

Meanwhile, Brisbane, which will host the fourth match of the Test series, has seen a new spike in the COVID crisis and is fearing a strict lockdown, which has the possibility to affect the red-ball series.

The Team India contingent, who came out of the IPL bubble last month and then flew to Australia for the ODI, T20I and the ongoing Test tour have already been subjected to multiple quarantine phases, are hesitant to play the final Test at The Gabba in Brisbane, scheduled to commence from 15th Jan.

“If you look at it, we were quarantining for 14 days in Dubai before landing in Sydney and doing so for another 14 days,” a source within the Indian team revealed to Cricbuzz, “that means we were in a hard bubble for nearly a month before coming out. What we don’t want now is to quarantine again at the end of the tour.”

Moreover, the squad which is currently at Sydney preparing for the third Test, is preferring to play both of the upcoming matches at any other venue, to avoid another possible quarantine hassle, the source further confirmed.

“We aren’t keen on going to Brisbane if it means being stuck in the hotel again, except for going to the ground. Instead, we don’t mind being in some other city, playing both Test matches there to complete the series and returning home,” the tracking developments added.

India are currently tied 1-1 with the Aussies in the series.
