In a short video shared by the BCCI, the players were seen making their way towards the studio and having their headshots taken from various angles. The threat of the Omicron variant and the strength of the bio-bubble was evident with even the photographers wearing a full PPE kit for the procedure.

Skipper Virat Kohli and interim vice-captain KL Rahul were the first ones to be seen, and they were followed by the likes of Rishabh Pant, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane. The rest of the squad members followed suit as well.

The BCCI released a video on Twitter, which was captioned: Team Headshots done. Just a few sleeps away from the first Test. We cannot wait.

The first Test between the two teams will begin on Boxing Day (December 26). Rain and thunderstorms are expected to play a part in the contest, which was addressed by Dean Elgar in a virtual press conference. The Proteas skipper said:

“I hope rain stays away, there has been a lot of rain so hopefully that stays away. Centurion has been providing very good wickets. It has always been a pretty good place if you apply yourself as a batter. With the ball in hand, you can exploit the conditions if you have extra pace and bounce. If you apply yourself as a batter, you can score runs at Centurion. If you have some skill and you are willing to stay patient, the bowlers can also enjoy themselves at Centurion,”

The remainder of the Test will take place at Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively. India are on the lookout to clinch their first Test series in South Africa. The Men In Blue will be without Rohit Sharma, who suffered an injury right before the team’s departure. This marks coach Rahul Dravid’s maiden overseas assignment.
