The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the 15-member squad for the coveted 2023 ODI World Cup. The high-profile event is set to commence on October 5 in India with defending champions England battling New Zealand at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
ICC had informed all 10 participating teams to finalize their squads and submit them to the apex council by September 5. The All India Senior Men’s Selection Committee announced their 15-member squad.
Rohit Sharma is set to lead the team while Hardik Pandya been named the vice-captain. Team India’s World Cup squad is similar to the squad of currently participating in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 campaign.
The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer who have recovered from the respective injuries and will take part in the ODI World Cup following their inclusion in India’s squad for the ACC event. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami will be part of the bowling attack. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who was named as the traveling reserve in the Asia Cup squad has failed to make the cut in the squad.
India will start their campaign on October 8, as they clash with five-time winners Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Furthermore, the highly-anticipated India-Pakistan fixture will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.
