Australian all-rounder Tahlia McGrath believes that facing India in their historic opening match at Commonwealth Games 2022 will prove to be challenging. Additionally, she views arch-rivals England as her squad’s toughest challenge.
WOMEN’S CRICKET HAS BEEN INCLUDED IN THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES FOR THE FIRST TIME
Women’s Cricket has been included in the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games, in what is the popular sport’s first inclusion in the Commonwealth Games since a List A men’s tournament was held at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The matches will be played as Women’s Twenty20 Internationals (WT20Is), with only a women’s tournament being part of the Games. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has already announced all matches at the tournament would hold Twenty20 International status.

Known for her ability to swing the ball in both directions, Tahlia McGrath is an important part of the Australian squad hoping to win the tournament. She is in excellent form as a batsman as well, averaging an unbelievable 247 in the WT20I format. In her 4 innings in the format, she has already scored 247 runs buoyed by two half-centuries, including a brilliant undefeated 91.

Australia rules the women’s cricket world roost, but McGrath still considers India a challenging opening opponent. “Twenty20 is a format that can go either way, so it’s going to be a really hard tournament, and India first up is going to be a real challenge, but we’re feeling good,” she commented.
She believes the Australian squad is hungry to win every tournament they participate in, and that includes the Commonwealth Games.
“We certainly have that hunger and that desire and it’s the first time women’s cricket is in the Commonwealth Games so everyone wants it that bit more,“ she said.
