This medal marks India’s first in the Australian Open which happens to be a platinum event. While some might have expected India to go until the finals, the Korean pair could not be brought down and played really well. The duo fought a superb battle but had to settle for the third spot.

This loss comes after the pair beat another Korean opponent in the quarter finals. Both Amalraj and Sathiyan had beaten the pair of Jang Woojin and Lim Jonghoon 5-11, 11-6, 14-12, 11-8 on Friday morning to advance to the last four.

Thus the bronze marks India’s only medal of the event. Most of them made the exit after only the preliminary rounds. Both Sathiyan and Sharath Kamal made it to the third round of the men’s singles before bowing out from the competition.
