PV Sindhu, the defending Swiss Open Super 300 champion, was unable to defend her crown this time as the double Olympics medallist crashed out of the tournament against Putri Kusuma Wardani.
In their women’s singles second round outing, the fourth seeded Sindhu was bested by the unseeded Wardani in an exciting three game thriller, which concluded with a 15-21 21-12 18-21 by the Indonesian shuttler.
On the other hand, the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty kept the Indian campaign at the tournament in continuation as the second seeded pair clinched their quarterfinal spot courtesy of challenging victory over Fang-Chih Lee and Fang-Jen Lee of Taiwan.
Satwik-Chirag marked a 12-21 21-17 28-26 win over the Taiwanese duo, and their next outing in the last eights will be the pair of Jeppe Bay and Lasse Molhede of Denmark later on Friday.
