Swimmer Vedaant Madhavan, son of R. Madhavan, clinches 800m freestyle gold at Danish Open


Vedaant Madhavan, the rising superstar of the Indian swimming fraternity and son of renowned actor R. Madhavan, has bagged his second medal at the ongoing Danish Open in Copenhagen, clinching gold in the 800m freestyle event.

On Sunday night, Vedaant clocked 8:17.28, not only beating local swimmer Alexander L Bjorn by 0.10 but also setting a new personal best, improving by an astounding 11:48 to win the 800m event gold.

The 16-year-old has been on a splendid run at the event, having clinched silver in the 1500m freestyle event which took place on Friday, followed by marking another new personal best in the 200m freestyle and finishing 12th overall.

R. Madhavan himself took to Instagram to share a clip of his son atop the podium. The 3 Idiots actor captioned the clip by saying, “GOLD….With all your blessings and God’s greatest the winning street continues. Today it’s a GOLD IN 800m for vedaantmadhavan. Overwhelmed and humbled.” Madhavan also expressed gratitude towards Vedaant’s coach Pradeep Kumar, Swimming Federation of India and the entire team. Check out the clip below-

In the meantime, Indian swimming ace Sajan Prakash finished fifth in the ‘A’ final of the men’s 100m butterfly event, clocking 54.24 and in the ‘C’ final, Tanish George Mathew came out on top with a timing of 56.44. Shakthi Balakrishnan finished 34th out of 42 participants in the women’s 200m freestyle event with 2:14.27 on the clock.
