Karnataka swimmer Suvana C Baskar set a new benchmark as she clocked a new national record this Tuesday, the third day of the ongoing Swimming Nationals 2023 taking place in Hyderabad.
Suvana edged past Maana Patel of Gujarat, the previous record holder, with a 29.63 secs swim, which is more than 0.16 seconds faster than Maana’s time of 29.71 secs which she set at the last edition of the Nationals where she clinched silver.
The meet record was broken after two decades by Rujuta Khade of Maharashtra, who set a new time of 26.47 secs, breaking the previous record of 26.61 secs set by Shikha Tandon back in 2003.
The men’s 1500m freestyle meet record was broken by Gujarat’s Aryan Nehra en route to his gold. He set a time of 15:29.76, breaking the previous record of Kushagra Rawat, who secured silver back in 2021 in Bangalore with a time of 15:45.62. Aryan had previously broken the 800m freestyle meet record, as well as the 400m freestyle national record.
In the women’s 4x100m medley, Rujuta, Palak Joshi, Apeksha Fernandes and Anannya of Maharashtra prevailed over Bengal and Karnataka.
