In a moment of sporting glory, Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale secured a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. His remarkable achievement adds to India’s growing medal tally in shooting.
Swapnil Kusale delivers exceptional performance
Kusale’s performance marks India’s first-ever Olympic shooting medal in the 50m 3P discipline. This achievement is significant, as it breaks new ground for Indian shooters on the global stage.
The final was no walk in the park. Amidst fierce competition, Kusale delivered an exceptional performance, showcasing his skill, focus, and nerves of steel. His total score of 451.4 points secured him the coveted bronze.
Kusale’s journey to the podium involved strategic shooting across different positions. After starting sixth in the kneeling position, he steadily climbed up the ranks. Consistent series in prone and standing positions propelled him to third place by the end of stage 1.
As the bottom two shooters were eliminated, Kusale’s position in the top three was confirmed. With each shot carrying the weight of medal hopes, he maintained his composure. Although the gold eluded him, his bronze medal is a testament to his skill and determination.
The gold went to China’s Liu Yukun, the world record holder in the event, with a score of 463.6. Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish secured silver with 461.3 points, adding to his earlier silver from Rio 2016.
Kusale’s medal joins the impressive haul for India in shooting at Paris 2024. Before him, Manu Bhaker clinched bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol individual event and teamed up with Sarabjot Singh for another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team.
