In a historic achievement, Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale has secured a spot in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He finished seventh in the qualification round, out of a total of 44 shooters competing. His impressive tally of 590 points secured his place in the final.

Kusale’s score included 38 inner 10s (Xs), demonstrating his precision and consistency. Kusale’s performance was remarkable across three shooting positions.
Kneeling: He scored 198 points.
Prone: He scored 197 points.
Standing: He scored 195 points.

The top three shooters in the qualification round were:
Yukun Liu (People’s Republic of China) with a score of 594-38X.
Jon-Hermann Hegg (Norway) with 593-36X.
Serhiy Kulish (Ukraine), the Rio 2016 silver medallist, with 592-39X.
The men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final will take place on Thursday. India has never won a shooting medal in this event at the Olympics, making Kusale’s achievement even more significant.

Unfortunately, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar missed out on the final, finishing 11th. Indian trap shooters Shreyasi Singh and Rajeshwari Kumari also fell short in the women’s event.
Indian shooters Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh will compete in the women’s 25m pistol event on Friday. Shotgun skeet events for India will also begin on the same day.
