Mumbai Indians’ star batsman Suryakumar Yadav got his maiden India call-up for the T20 International (T20I) series against England on Saturday. However, his call-up came after a long time despite having performed consistently. Meanwhile, he took to Twitter and expressed his excitement after the selection. He tweeted “The feeling is surreal,” along with an Indian flag and heart emojis as well.

However, he was among three players to earn their maiden call-up as well for the five-match series against England and they are – Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tewatia. Suryakumar was one of the key players for Mumbai Indians in their record-fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title in the United Arab Emirates last year as well.

He had scored 480 runs which came at a strike rate of 145.01, including an unbeaten 79 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He hit four half-centuries and averaged 40 in the cash-rich league. After having done well, he was on the verge of getting a call-up in the T20I squad for India’s tour of Australia last year, but he wasn’t selected.

However, now he has a chance to seal his place in the series against England as well as in the squad for the T20 World Cup later in the year as well. Meanwhile, apart from Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tewatia, Kolkata Knight Riders’ spinner Varun Chakravarthy has also been added to the team after his injury ruled him out of the squad from India’s tour of Australia.

It is also noteworthy that, all five T20I matches against England will take place at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad after the completion of the final two Tests. The first T20I is scheduled to take place on March 12.

India’s T20I squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Yuzvendra Chahal, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur.
