The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to begin next month and like other teams, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) too have started their preparation. And, their key player Suresh Raina, who had pulled out of IPL 2020 in the UAE citing personal reasons, has returned to the squad as well. However, while speaking on him, former India wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel said that he will hold the key for CSK to turn things around this time.

CSK had a rather dismal show in the last season. They ended the campaign at the seventh position and this was the very first time that they failed to reach the playoffs in the 11 seasons they have played so far out of 13. However, they have won the IPL title thrice and is considered as one of the most successful franchises in the history of the league as well.

“And now with Suresh Raina coming in the squad. I think he holds key in the CSK line-up and we have seen what he has done throughout the years of IPL. With him coming back and Ruturaj Gaikwad doing well in domestic cricket and plus MS Dhoni, they’re great players and you can’t count them out for too long,” Parthiv Patel said in Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

Notably, Suresh Raina is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL where he has 5368 runs in 193 matches which came at an average of 33.34. However, he will bat in the top of the order along with Ambati Rayudu in IPL 2021 as well. Apart from them, the team will get the services of Moeen Ali and K Gowtham which will strengthen their spin-bowling and lower order too.

While talking about the captain, MS Dhoni, Parthiv said that the former India captain will be determined to get CSK on track again. Dhoni too had a poor show in the last season and he will certainly try not to replicate last season as well.

“He (MS Dhoni) had an indifferent season last year but as we saw how keen he is (spoke to him few times) and he is very determined to get CSK’s ball rolling to start with. These are the teams who have done well and they know that once they win the first game or the second game — they can start believing again. So, it won’t take much of time for CSK to start the tournament in a positive manner,” Parthiv concluded.
