The 13th edition of Indian Premier League has witnessed many things – be it Mumbai Indians’ record fifth title win or Chennai Super Kings’ failure to reach the playoffs. However, one thing that also took the limelight was the absence of Suresh Raina, the key player of Chennai Super Kings.

However, nearly after two years, Suresh Raina is all set to take the field for the competitive cricket as he will be playing for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2020-21 season. Although the BCCI is yet to announce the fixture of this season, it is confirmed that the board will host the T20 tournament prior to the IPL auction for the upcoming edition.

While speaking to Dainik Jagran, Suresh Raina announced that he will lead Uttar Pradesh in the domestic tournament. Along with that, the former India player has also confirmed that he will be a part of the IPL 2021. Notably, the familiar face in the UP team in white-ball fixtures, Raina had captained them to a title win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2015-16.

However, Raina didn’t feature in any competitive match since the final of IPL 2019. He was about to return for the IPL 2020 as a player of CSK and had also travelled to UAE too but had pulled out his name and returned home after 13 members in the CSK camp had tested positive for COVID-19.

Alongside him, Harbhajan Singh was another player who also didn’t feature in the IPL 2020. However, he also didn’t travel to UAE. Meanwhile, the franchise had removed their names from the official website and it’s still not known if they are part of CSK now.

On the other hand, the BCCI is expected to take a final call regarding the domestic season and IPL 2021 after their Annual General Meeting on December 24. However, the BCCI hopes to begin the season next month as well and if the BCCI hosts Ranji Trophy, the season might extend till March too.

Notably, IPL 2021 is expected to be played in April and May and the BCCI is likely to stage the league in India if the situation of COVID-19 cases remains under control. However, the global pandemic forced the board to shift the cash-rich league to UAE this season as well.
