Sandesh Jhingan lodged a sliding tackle at the 17th minute on Sunil Chhetri in order to save a goal. Regardless of it, the ball found the back of the net. However, Chhettri couldn’t celebrate his goal as he laid down in agonizing pain of the mistimed tackle.

The injury didn’t seem to be too serious in the first instance as he played out the full ninety minutes. However, MRI reports indicate that it is a matter of serious concern.

Here are the highlights of the pertaining game where one can see the dangerous tackle which ultimately injured Chhetri:

“The BFC Medical Team have shared the MRI reports and medical assessments and we have scrutinized them thoroughly. Sunil needs rest of around two weeks and proper rehabilitation after which he can get back to training,” said the Indian National Team physiotherapist Gigy George.

The doctor of the squad, Shervin Sheriff, further added, “He can’t travel with this injury as it’s a weight-bearing joint. He needs to have proper rest along with the rehab programme for a speedy recovery. We are closely monitoring the situation and following it up with the club medical team and Sunil himself.”

The Blue Tigers are heavily dependent on Sunil Chhetri to get a favorable result. The Bengaluru FC captain’s absence would alter the plans of Stephen Constantine and Indian team heading into the Jordan game drastically.
