India’s top-ranked men’s singles player, Sumit Nagal, experienced a bittersweet journey at Wimbledon 2024. After an earlier exit from the men’s singles competition, Nagal teamed up with Dusan Lajovic for the men’s doubles. Unfortunately, their campaign concluded in the first round.
Sumit Nagal faces consecutive defeats on Wimbledon debut
Facing Spain’s Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar, Nagal and Lajovic fought valiantly but fell in straight sets. The match lasted an hour and seven minutes, with the Indian-Serbian duo unable to recover after being broken early in both sets.
Earlier, Sumit Nagal lost to Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia in the first round of men’s singles at Wimbledon 2024. The former boys doubles Wimbledon champion lost to Kecmanovic 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 in 2 hours and 48 minutes at the SW19. Nagal, playing his first match in the main draw of Wimbledon, put up a brave fight before going down in the opening round.
