India’s top singles player, Sumit Nagal, faced an early exit from the Winston-Salem Open, an ATP 250 event. In a straight-set match, he lost to Borna Coric, the Croatian player, with a scoreline of 4-6, 2-6. The contest lasted for approximately one hour and 10 minutes.

Despite converting the only breakpoint he received, Nagal struggled, dropping his serve four times during the match. His defeat marks the end of his campaign in this tournament.

In the doubles draw, former junior national champion Dhakshineswar Suresh will compete alongside his British partner, Luca Pow. Dhakshineswar, currently part of the US College circuit, narrowly missed qualifying for the singles main draw, falling in the second round of the qualifying event to American fourth seed Learner Tien.
Sumit Nagal returns for Davis Cup
Sumit Nagal on Friday returned to the Davis Cup team for the World Group I tie against Sweden but Yuki Bhambri has opted out of the September 14-15 contest, where former national champion Ashutosh Singh will serve as the new coach of the national team. Nagal had missed the historic tie against Pakistan in Islamabad on grass court but the in-form player is back to lead the national team for the indoor hard-court contest in Stockholm.
