India’s Sumit Nagal has reached a new career-high ranking of 68 in the ATP men’s singles category. This remarkable ascent places him as the fourth highest-ranked Indian man since 1973. Nagal climbed five spots in the latest ATP rankings, surpassing his previous best of 71. His consistent performance has propelled him to this impressive milestone.

Sumit Nagal’s rise in International Circuit

In February, Nagal won the Chennai Open, an ATP Challenger event, breaking into the top 100 for the first time in his career. He secured his second ATP Challenger title in Germany, rising to world No. 77 in June.

Nagal featured in three Grand Slams in 2024—Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon. Notably, he stunned the 31st seed Alexander Bublik at the Australian Open, becoming the first Indian male player in 35 years to defeat a seeded player at a Grand Slam.

His consistency earned him a Paris 2024 Olympics quota for the men’s singles event, marking his second Olympic appearance after Tokyo 2020. Nagal is only the second Indian player to feature in consecutive men’s singles draws at the Summer Games, following in the footsteps of Leander Paes.

Before heading to Paris, Nagal will compete in the Swedish Open. Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji will represent India in the men’s doubles competition at the upcoming Olympic Summer Games.

Sumit Nagal’s rise reflects his dedication and talent, and Indian tennis enthusiasts eagerly await his continued success on the international stage.
