Indian tennis rising sensation Sumit Nagal has achieved a new milestone in his career by reaching a career-high ATP ranking of 95. This achievement comes on the heels of a series of impressive performances that have marked Nagal’s steady rise in the world of tennis.

The rise of Sumit Nagal

Nagal’s journey to the top 100 began in February 2024 when he clinched the Chennai Open title. This victory propelled him to a ranking of 97th. He further solidified his position with a dream debut at the prestigious Miami Open, defeating Canadian player Gabriel Diallo in straight sets during the qualifiers.

Despite a slight setback at the Miami Open, where he lost to Coleman Wong in the next qualifying round, Nagal’s fighting spirit remained undimmed. He previously showcased his talent at the Indian Wells Open, qualifying for the main draw before falling to Milos Raonic.

A pivotal moment in Nagal’s career was his impressive run to the second round of the Australian Open in January. This performance propelled him into the coveted top 100 rankings for the first time. However, after his Chennai Open win, Nagal lost in the semifinal of the Bengaluru Open against Stefano Napolitano.

At the Pune ATP Challenger, Nagal lost in the pre-quarterfinal against Niki Poonacha. This performance saw Nagal being dropped out of the top 100 after losing 16 points from his kitty, resulting in him sliding three spots to 101 in the latest ATP rankings.

Despite these setbacks, Nagal bounced back and climbed two spots to reach a career-best ranking of 95th in the world. This achievement comes just ahead of his participation in the ATP 250 Marrakech tournament. In the first round of this tournament, Nagal will face world no. 99 Corentin Moutet on Tuesday.
