Subhankar Dey stunned the former World Champion Lin Dan with a scoreline of 22-20 21-19 to reach the quarter finals of SaarLorLux Open Badminton Championship in Germany. Lin Dan has has five World Championship titles and two Olympic gold medals in his bag. The current World No 12 was the first seed in this competition. So, it was certainly a proud moment in the career of the 25 year old Indian Badminton player.
Subhankar Dey (currently World No 64) took only 45 minutes to eliminate Lin Dan from SaarLorLux Open Badminton Championship on Thursday. The match was really close and Subhankar Dey was able to win crucial points at the end of both the games. Lin Dan is almost at the fag end of his career and now he is struggling to get to his prime form at this moment.
Now, the 25 year old Indian Badminton player Subhankar Dey will face the seventh seed of this competition, Toby Penty. On the other hand, the gold medalist of Commonwealth Games, Parupalli Kashyap were able to beat the German player Alexander Roovers with a scoreline of 21-14, 21-12. Now he will face the Frenchman Toma Junior Popov in the Quarter Finals. However the doubles pair had a disappointing day as both the Indian Doubles team are out of competition.
