The BCCI announced their plan to implement stricter regulations to the bio-bubble as India recorded 3.6 lakh cases in the last 24 hours leading to 3000 deaths.
Since a few select players have opted to leave the camp over their fears of being stuck and the vulnerability of the current bio-bubble, the BCCI have taken a few measures for the remainder of the competition.
The BCCI have opted to put a hold on food delivery for the time being. Moreover, the players in the bio bubble have to undergo tests every two days as opposed to every five days as before.
BCCI COO Hemang Amin stated that the players were allowed to deliver food from outside, but that is prohibited from now on.
“Earlier in the tournament, we had permitted food deliveries from outside your designated hotels, but these privileges have also been withdrawn. Apart from this, we have also increased our level of caution to strengthen our bio-bubbles,” said Hemang Amin as quoted by News 18.
As India announced their mass vaccination drive which will make every adult eligible to receive the doses, a BCCI source confirmed that the players can get the vaccine if they desire to.
“The Indian players can get vaccinated from Saturday. It is a call that is left on players. Only the Indian players can get vaccinated here,” concluded the BCCI source.
The ongoing 14th edition of the tournament has seen the end of its first leg which was conducted across Chennai and Mumbai. The teams have now shifted base to Ahmedabad and Delhi for the next set of fixtures.
The franchises are having a tough time keeping a hold of their set of players with perennial unrest set in at this point of time.
Liam Livingstone, Andrew Tye, R Ashwin, Adam Zampa, and Kane Richardson have already left the bio-bubble due to the surge in cases that has left the country shaken.
The primary fear for players stems from the fact that they won’t be able to make it to the homeland after the conclusion of the tournament. For instance, the Australian government have already suspended flights coming from India and made it clear that the players will have to make their own arrangements to come back.
Following this grim update, BCCI has assured that they will do everything in their power to get them back home safely once the tournament is concluded.
