As the global pandemic novel coronavirus has brought the entire world into a standstill, its outbreak and lockdown have led all the people to stay at home only which also included cricketers. While they are trying to stay fit amid this situation with their home work-out, they left no stone unturned to get in touch with the players through social media. And Australia’s swashbuckling batsman Steve Smith is no different.

On Sunday, the number one Test batsman engaged himself in an Instagram Q&A session with the fans in which he answered a lot of questions which included his professional life to personal as well.

Among those questions, one was his favourite cricket tournament that he has played. When a fan asked him to name his favourite, Steve Smith revealed that it is none other than the cash-rich tournament – Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL is considered as one of the biggest and the most celebrated competitions across the globe. Notably, the former Australia captain who is one of the key players from Australia is the captain of the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the tournament.

Steve Smith loves the chance of playing with the best and against the best in the league. As a captain, he nearly led the Rising Pune Supergiants to the IPL title in 2017 against Mumbai Indians who eventually became the winner by one run and Smith top-scored with a fearless 51. He was the fourth-highest run-scorer with 472 runs in 15 games in that season. As a captain, the 31-year old has tasted the success as well where he won 19 games out of 28.

Currently, all the sporting events have either been postponed or cancelled around the world which also included the 13th edition of IPL and the questions also raised on the ICC T20 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in Australia later this year. Although Cricket Australia have announced their upcoming fixture, the decision is still pending on IPL and the T20 World Cup.

However, the talks are going on and the BCCI to host the cash-rich league in October if the mega event in Australia postpones.

“I think when you’re playing for your country at a World Cup, that’s the pinnacle for one-day or T20 cricket, so of course I’d prefer to play in that. But if that doesn’t happen and the IPL’s there, and they postpone it, then so be it. IPL’s also a terrific tournament as a domestic tournament,” Steve Smith concluded.
