Australia’s key player Steve Smith is likely to play in the second test against India despite having a back injury. The Test will begin on Saturday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Notably, Smith had missed the training in the buildup of the first Test at Adelaide and he was feeling “a little stiff” on Tuesday as well, but he said that he will be able to manage things.

“It’s just something I need to manage whenever it goes and I probably haven’t had an episode since 2014, I think it was, so hopefully they can continue to be six years apart if they come,” Smith said to the reporters.

“If I’m moving around and laying down I’m good. If I sit around for too long it’s not great for it, but I’m not worried about it. I think everything will be fine and I’ll be good to go,” he again shared.

Steve Smith could manage only one run in the first innings at Adelaide Oval and was one not out when Joe Burns smashed the winnings runs as Australia registered a convincing eight-wicket win over India, who were dismissed for a mere score of 36 in their second innings. However, Smith has tasted a fair share of success at the MCG. In seven Boxing Day tests, he has scored 908 runs at 113.50 with four centuries and three fifties.

“I like batting at the MCG,” Steve Smith said. “There’s nothing like the thrill and you get the shivers down your spine when you walk out to bat on Boxing Day with the crowd yelling, and it’s like a dream come true in a way.”

Meanwhile, their opener David Warner is expected to miss the second Test as he is yet to be fully match-fit from the groin injury which left him out of the first Test. “I am (hopeful), that’s one that I never want to miss out on,” Warner had said to Australian sports radio network SEN about the Melbourne Test.”(Adelaide’s) my first missed Test through injury so I’m obviously very disappointed with that. “With the big series that it is, it’s devastating to miss a Test but I know that the guys who are walking out there are going to put their best foot forward.”
