The star Swiss right back Stephan Lichtsteiner is going to leave the Emirates as his contract with the Gunners are going to end after this June. Lichtsteiner joined the Gunners with a free transfer in the previous season. Stephan Lichtsteiner was a player of Juventus and his contract with the Serie A club ended in the previous season.
The club management of the Gunners brought him as the back up option for Hector Bellerin as the player was injured through out the whole season. However, Lichtsteiner was able to make only 23 appearances for the Gunners in all competition in the whole season.
Lichtsteiner was not able to cope up with the pace of Premier League and that’s why the manager of Arsenal, Unai Emery tried to give more chances to the youngster Ainsley Maitland Niles in that position. Stephan Lichtsteiner’s only goal for the Gunners came against Blackpool in the Carabao Cup.
Stephan Lichtsteiner was not happy to end at the losing side in the Final of the Europa League this season. With the defeat in the Final of the Europa League, they missed the opportunity to qualify to the Champions League in the next season. So, the career of Stephan Lichtsteiner at the Emirates ended with a bitter note.
