Srihari Natraj Triumphs, Tamil Nadu Quartet Shatters Mixed 4x100m Medley Record at National Aquatic Championships

The Senior National Aquatic Championships in Mangaluru witnessed a series of thrilling performances, with Karnataka’s Srihari Natraj clinching the men’s 100m freestyle title and Tamil Nadu’s quartet setting a new record in the mixed 4x100m medley relay. These achievements highlight the growing prowess of Indian swimmers on the national stage.

Srihari Natraj’s Victory

Srihari Natraj, a prominent figure in Indian swimming, added another feather to his cap by winning the men’s 100m freestyle. Natraj, known for his exceptional speed and technique, clocked an impressive time of 50.59 seconds, narrowly edging out Anand As from the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), who finished at 50.77 seconds.

Tamil Nadu Quartet’s Record-Breaking Performance

The highlight of the championships was undoubtedly the record-breaking performance by the Tamil Nadu quartet in the mixed 4x100m medley relay. The team, comprising Pramiti Gnanasekaran, Danush Suresh, B Bendection Rohit, and Deeksha Sivakumar, clocked a remarkable time of 4:05.30, surpassing the previous record of 4:06.84 set by Maharashtra in 2023.

The championships also saw several other noteworthy performances:

  • Vritti Agarwal from Telangana led the women’s 1500m freestyle, finishing with a time of 17:45.63. Her consistent pace and endurance were evident as she maintained her lead throughout the race.
  • In the men’s 800m freestyle, Aneesh S Gowda from Karnataka broke away early and finished first with a time of 8:20.01, followed by his teammate Dharshan S at 8:27.69.
  • The women’s 200m medley was a closely contested race, with Shreenithi Natesan from Tamil Nadu and Hashika Ramachandra from Karnataka pulling ahead in the final 50m freestyle lap to finish first and second respectively.
