Srihari Nataraj won the men’s 100m freestyle title and also managed to better his own national record to win the 50m backstroke event.

Srihari, who comes from Bengaluru broke the national record after he completed the 50m backstroke event with a timing of 25.58 seconds to clinch gold. In the 100m freestyle event, Srihari clinched gold to better his silver medal he had won last year.

“I didn’t really go all out, I thought if I get a good start, it should be a personal best. The start was good but the swim wasn’t hundred percent. I knew this would be my main event, I enjoy this one, I don’t get a lot of chances to do this,” said Srihari.

Overall it was a joy for the coach A.C. Jayarajan as he watched his trainees clinch all the three medals in the 100m freestyle event. A.S. Anand and Vinay Saharan were the ones that finished behind Srihari for the other two medals.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Kushagra Rawat too created record after she clinched the 800m to add to his previously won 1500m freestyle event. Also Haryana’s Shivani Kataria took home the women’s 200m freestyle gold medal after finishing the event with a meet record.
