Sri Lankan cricketer caught in possession of heroin during lockdown

The Sri Lankan police detained pacer Snehan Madushanka on a charge of possessing cocaine. The cricketer was remanded for two weeks by a magistrate. 

Madushanka’s claim to fame is a hattrick in his debut ODI against Bangladesh and a couple of  T20 appearances following which he suffered an injury. The 25-year-old has not appeared in an International fixture since the injury.

The police official claimed that the cricketer was stopped in his car which also had another person present. Madhushanka had breached the rules of the nationwide lockdown which has been kept in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.

According to the official, Madhushanka was carrying a little over 2 grams of heroin with him while being detained in the town of Pannala.

Violation of the lockdown restrictions have been a serious issue on the island of Sri Lanka with over 65,000 people already arrested since March 20. The nation is set to relax the restrictions on Tuesday.
