SRH team’s head coach Daniel Vettori wants the franchise to focus on successfully chasing targets as well, after their success in setting totals. Vettori made the remarks after SRH’s loss by 35 runs against RCB at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on April 26, Thursday.

SRH’s 4-match winning streak was snapped by the bottom-ranked RCB, who breathed some life into their tournament hopes. SRH have won 4 of the 8 matches that they have played while batting first.

SRH, under the guidance of head coach Daniel Vettori, had been performing exceptionally well, especially while setting targets. However, the match against RCB exposed their vulnerability in chasing high totals. Despite a commendable effort, SRH failed to chase down the target of 207 runs set by RCB.

Daniel Vettori wants to rectify things in chasing for SRH

In the post-match press conference, Vettori reflected on the team’s performance and the lessons learned from the defeat. He emphasized the need for SRH to focus on successfully chasing targets, a skill they had yet to master despite their success in setting totals.

Looking ahead, Vettori shifted the focus to SRH’s next match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk. He acknowledged the need for the team to work on their approach while chasing a target and expressed his intention to implement this strategy against CSK.

“I think you know, we have been successful setting totals, and now we have to look at our way of chasing, and we come up against a really good team in Chennai. And so, I suppose for us removing ourselves from this game and understanding that the Chepauk wicket would be different, and we are going to have to go about it in a different manner. So we’ve only got a couple of days to put that into place,” Vettori said.

Despite the setback, Vettori maintained a positive outlook. He did not want the team to change their aggressive game and still wanted the team to play with that intent. He believed that on the grounds and surfaces they were playing, they would have to be aggressive and take the game on.

SRH boasts a formidable batting lineup, with their batters setting and breaking records in every game they play. The opening combination of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma has been a key factor in SRH’s resurgence in the tournament. However, the team’s inability to chase high totals has been a cause for concern.
