T Natarajan, the left-arm pacer from Tamil Nadu, is producing match-winning spells with his exceptional skills in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Representing the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), Natarajan has picked up 15 wickets in just 8 matches. His fiery form has led to speculations about his imminent return to the Indian cricket team.

James Franklin on Natarajan’s India career

James Franklin, the bowling coach of SRH and former New Zealand fast bowler, has expressed confidence in Natarajan’s potential for a comeback into the Indian team. According to Franklin, if Natarajan continues his consistent performances, he will undoubtedly keep the Indian selectors interested.

Natarajan’s strength lies in his ability to deliver yorkers with precision. This skill has been a significant asset for the SRH team and has played a crucial role in his success in the ongoing IPL season. Franklin believes that if Natarajan maintains his form throughout the IPL, discussions about his inclusion in the Indian team will naturally follow.

“There are just so many quality players in India. He can only control what he can. His great strength is obviously his yorker bowling. That is where he is a huge asset for us as a team,” Franklin told pressers on the eve of SRH’s crunch game against MI at the Wankhede Stadium.

Injuries forced Natarajan’s career to take a backshift

However, Natarajan’s journey has not been without challenges. After making his debut across all three formats during India’s tour of Australia in 2020-21, he faced injury concerns and a bout of Covid, which hampered his chances of a prolonged run for India. His last appearance for India was in a home series against England in March 2021.

The decision to exclude Natarajan from the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 was met with surprise by many fans and cricket pundits. However, the current form of Natarajan in the IPL has reignited the debate about his inclusion in the Indian team.

T Natarajan’s impressive performances in IPL 2024 have put him back in contention for a spot in the Indian cricket team. As James Franklin rightly pointed out, if Natarajan continues his current form, his return to the Indian team may not be far away.
