Former India pacer S Sreesanth called his time from cricket across all formats. The 39-year-old represented the nation in 27 Tests, 53 ODIs, and 10 T20Is. He also represented the Punjab franchise, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.
Bursting into the scene as a rampant and talented fast bowler with a smooth bowling action, Sreesanth made his debut in 2005. He had a topsy-turvy career with controversies and achievements making the headlines constantly.
He was a member of the winning squad of the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup. His career took a major derail after his involvement was detected in the IPL spot-fixing saga in 2013. The veteran copped a lifetime ban and even had to spend a month in jail for his actions.
The pacer’s lifetime ban was lifted in 2019 after which he tried to make a comeback into the Indian team and even entered his name in the IPL auctions. He recently made his comeback in the ongoing Ranji campaign but elected to retire to give younger prospects his spot in the playing XI.
Sreesanth posted a message on his social media to announce his decision to retire from cricket. He wrote:
Today is a difficult day for me, but it is also a day of reflection and gratitude. Playing for Ecc, Ernakulam district, varies diff. League and tournament teams, Kerala state cricket association,Bcci, Warwickshire county cricket team,Indian airlines cricket team,Bpcl , and ICC
It has been an honor to represent my family, my teammates and the people of India. Nd everyone who loves the game . With much sadness but without regret, I say this with a heavy heart: I am retiring from the Indian domestic (first class and all formats )cricket
For the next generation of cricketers..I have chosen to end my first class cricket career. This decision is mine alone, and although I know this will not bring me happiness, it is the right and honorable action to take at this time in my life. I ve cherished every moment
