Indian table tennis player Sreeja Akula has unfortunately been ruled out of the upcoming season of the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) due to a stress fracture. This injury requires a six-week rest period, preventing her from participating in UTT 2024.
“I’m sorry to share that I have been diagnosed with a stress fracture and on my doctor’s advice, I’ll need to rest for six weeks, which unfortunately means I won’t be able to participate in UTT 2024,” Akula said in a statement.
Sreeja Akula’s achievements
Sreeja’s impressive track record includes reaching the pre-quarterfinals of women’s singles and the quarterfinals of the women’s team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. She also became the first Indian to win a singles title at the WTT Contender level by finishing at the top in the WTT Contender Lagos. Additionally, she holds a gold medal from the 2022 Commonwealth Games and is a double gold medallist from the 2019 South Asian Games.

In her absence, the UTT will see Nithyashree Mani, the U19 Youth National Champion and a UTT debutant, stepping in as her replacement. Despite this setback, Sreeja’s achievements and dedication continue to inspire fans and fellow players alike.
