Just as the Indian cricket scene grasped the news of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket, his teammate and trusted lieutenant Suresh Raina decided to follow suit and announced his exit from the Indian cricket team.

As the Indian cricket fandom was just coping up with the news of the iconic MS Dhoni’s retirement, Suresh Raina announced his retirement from international cricket, moments after Mahi declared his exit from the Men in Blue.

Two of the greatest players in the history of Team India, made a memorable exit on the country’s 74th independence day.

Suresh Raina announced his retirement on his official Instagram. “I choose to join you in this journey,” wrote Raina, plus a group photo with MS Dhoni and some of their Chennai teammates.

Revered as one of the greatest fielders in the gentleman’s game, the major part of both Suresh Raina’s international and Indian Premier League career was under Dhoni’s captaincy. Along with being the vice captain for CSK, Raina also captained the now defunct IPL franchise Gujarat Lions.

On Suresh Raina’s decision to hang his boots up, several Indian cricketers and athletes took to Twitter to tribute the 33 year old specialist batsman.
