Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu tasted victory on the opening day of the Spain Masters Super 300 on Wednesday, along with Kidambi Strikanth and Aakarshi Kashyap, while the doubles categories saw the pairs of Satwik-Chirag as well as Gayatri-Treesa bow out of the tournament.

Sindhu, the double Olympics medallist who has recently dropped out of the top 10 BWF world rankings, railed through Jenjira Stadelmann, as she outplayed her Swiss opponent to a 21-10, 21-14 straight game victory into the Round of 16.

Kidambi Srikanth was engaged with a neck to neck clash against Thai shuttler Thammasin Sitthikom, but was able to edge out with a narrow 21-11, 25-27, 23-21 which took him an hour and five minutes.

Aakarshi Kashyap also secured her entry into the next round of women’s singles with a superb comeback win over Canada’s Michelle Li. Trailing behind the sixth seeded Li at first, Aakarshi came from behind to secure the next two games, as well as the match by a 21-12-21, 21-15, 21-18 margin.

Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who recently won the Swiss Open, had retired midway during their men’s doubles clash against Ayato Endo and Yuta Takei of Japan. The pair were 9-11 when they decided to forfeit the match.

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand went down against another Japanese duo, Rena Miyaura and Ayako Sakuramoto, who dominated the Indian pair to an 18-21, 16-21 scoreline within 39 minutes.
