Former Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly questioned the Indian selection committee after they selected the team for the Caribbean tour on Sunday. The former Indian veteran was surprised as the Indian Test team Vice- Captain, Ajinkya Rahane and the U-19 sensation Shubman Gill were omitted from the ODI squad.
Ganguly said that the selection panel should give players chance in all the three formats in order to help them gain “Confidence and Experience”.
Gill the sensation from India’s successful U19 campaign from last years U-19 world cup, made his ODI debut earlier this year against New Zealand was ommitted from ODI team , owing to his good form against the same opposition. While Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey were handed call-ups after their performance for the India A side against the West Indies A side.
Ganguly wrote on Twitter:”There are many in the squad who can play all formats.. surprised not to see Gill and Rahane in the One Day team” Ganguly also added that : “Time has come for Indian selector that they should pick the same players in order to give the players rhythm and confidence”.
Meanwhile Gill showed his disappointed as he was not selected for the ODI team after the stellar performance against the West Indies A and also stated that he would keep scoring runs and keep impressing the selectors.
