Former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly has asked for the comeback of Rohit Sharma in the Test team. The right-handed batsman lost his place in the Test team earlier this year after he notched up the scores of 47, 10, 10, 11 against South Africa. Having registered two back-to-back centuries in his debut he failed to maintain his consistency in the longest format of the game.
“This is the time for the selectors to take Rohit along on the Australian tour for the Test series. He has matured a lot in last two years,” Sourav Ganguly told India TV.
The 46-year-old also praised Rohit, who led India to the Asia Cup 2018 victory, for his captaincy and said that he has proved his mettle.
“He has gained confidence in his game with time. In captaincy too, he has proved his mettle,” Ganguly said.
The Hitman has played 25 Tests till now and averages 39.97 in the longest format of the game. He has scored 1,479 runs with the highest score of 177 in this format. The 31-year-old made his debut against West Indies in the farewell series of Sachin Tendulkar.
Rohit Sharma can destroy a bowler both smoothly and brutally and is an excellent timer of the ball, but at present he is unlikely to make it to the Test side for the Australia tour.
