Australia completed a dominant 3-0 whitewash over India in the Women’s One Day International (WODI) series at the WACA in Perth. Despite an impressive century by Smriti Mandhana, who scored 105 off 109 balls, India fell short by 83 runs. Mandhana’s elegant innings was a lone bright spot in an otherwise disappointing performance by the Indian team.

Smriti Mandhana’s efforts to no avail

India lost the early wicket of Richa Ghosh in their run-chase. But Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol built some momentum with a partnership of 118 runs for the second wicket. Harleen, who also had cramps during her knock, scored 39 runs before giving a simple caught and bowled to Alana King.

Mandhana scored her ninth ODI hundred off 103 balls, but she hardly got any support from the other end. After Gardner castled her in the 36th over, the Indian innings completely fell apart. Jemimah Rodrigues promised with a quick-fire 11-ball 16.

Australia, led by Annabel Sutherland’s brilliant 110 off 95 balls and Ashleigh Gardner’s 50, posted a formidable total of 298 for 6 in their 50 overs. In response, India was bowled out for 215 in 45.1 overs. The Indian batting lineup struggled, with key players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma failing to make significant contributions.

Spin bowling all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner played a crucial role with both bat and ball, taking five wickets for 30 runs. Australia’s Tahlia McGrath also contributed with a half-century, helping her team secure the series victory.

The series was a one-sided affair, with Australia showcasing their dominance throughout. Mandhana’s century, while remarkable, was not enough to prevent the whitewash, leaving India to reflect on their performance and plan for future matches.
