Mohammad Siraj walks off the field after a hamstring injury on Day 1

Team India pacer Mohammad Siraj suffered an injury to his hamstring while bowling late on Day 1 against South Africa. The explosive seamer apparently tweaked the muscle during his run-up.

Right before making the leap in his delivery stride, Siraj pulled out of the delivery and hobbled his way onto the grass. He did not stop for treatment and went straight into the dressing room with physio Nitin Patel, while holding his hamstring throughout the way.

This comes as huge trouble for India who relies on Siraj’s energy with the ball with his short bursts.  The pacer had bowled 3.5 overs before leaving the field and the over was eventually completed by Shardul Thakur.

Jasprit Bumrah had rolled his ankle in the first Test and was off the field for a while. The injury, however, was not severe and he managed to return back to the pitch and bowl in the second innings.

If Siraj’s injury proves to be serious, Shardul Thakur will have a crucial role to play in the ongoing second Test match. The all-rounder was not used on Day 1, except for a single delivery to complete Siraj’s over. The BCCI are expected to announce an update on the injury after the physio’s evaluation.
