Singapore Smash: Manika Batra Bows Out Of Two Categories As Indian Campaign Comes To An End

Manika Batra’s run in both the women’s doubles and mixed doubles categories ended on Tuesday, putting an end to India’s campaign at the Singapore Smash table tennis tournament.

In the mixed doubles quarterfinals, the pair of Manika and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, seeded sixth in the tournament, lost to Japan’s silver medalists Hina Hayata and Tomokazu Harimoto. After a hard-fought match lasting 52 minutes, the Indian duo lost 2-3 (9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 7-11) to their fourth-seeded Japanese opponents.

Manika and Sathiyan had earlier won their round of 16 mixed doubles match against Jian Zeng and Chew Zhe Yu Clarence 3-1 (11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 11-3) in Singapore after getting a first-round bye.

During their 42-minute round-of-16 clash, Manika Kamath and Archana Kamath of India lost 2-3 to Meng Chen and Yidi Wang of China (2-11, 6-11, 15-13, 12-10, 6-11).

Alongside Manika, Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan had lost their first-round matches as well. Additionally, Harmeet Desai and Manav Thakkar failed to advance from the first round of the men’s doubles tournament.
